Just another day during another week in another year, at least that's how Whitney felt about going to work. She had been working at Magicks for five years now and there's not much left she hasn't seen or sold. Decorative shafts and wands, sacred jewels, eye of newt, pickled toad, and other gross looking things in jars are popular items at the store. Whitney always wonders what the people buying eye of newt or pickled toad use them for, but then thinks better of asking. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
Whitney still isn't sure how she got into her job, as a Psychology major in college, playing with plants and jellied things wasn't really her cup of tea. When she arrived in Memory, there wasn't a whole lot of life to the town. There were only a few housing places that were livable and only just so. Whitney had to do a lot of cleaning up of dust and grim before she could even move in to her small apartment. Magicks was one of the few town shops that was set up and needed employees. Whitney walked in, talked to the guy running the shop at the time, Steve Burns, and walked out with the job a half hour later.
For her first two years at the shop, she fixed up the shop with Steve and labeled all the innovatory. Whitney painted the swinging store sign a navy blue with white and black lettering in a flowing script. Steve had built more shelfs and aisles when they started getting a lot more strange items and the farms started growing more common herbs and plants for them. As the town became more established, they began getting more customers in addition to a few regulars.
However, near the end of her second year in Memory, Steve got ill and left her alone with the shop a lot more than normal. Whitney got used to running the shop alone but it saddened her as to why she was alone so often. Steve passed away during her third year in Memory, it was after he died that Whitney found out he was poisoned by the Pool of Tears. She never found out who Steve's spirit was or if he had one. Whitney did eventually get help with the shop so she could get some more days off then just Sunday when the store was closed. The girl to help her out is named Cora but Whitney was still learning more about her.
Whitney unlocked the store, flipping the closed sign to open on her way to the back room. Swiping the red curtain back to reveal a small table with two chairs and piles of boxes, Whitney took her red spring jacket off, hanging it from the back of a chair. Smoothing out her blue tea length dress, she walked the safe to take out the money to put in the cash drawer.
