LAIDEY BARBARA DEARE
FULL NAME: Laidey Barbara Deare
NICK NAME: Lady, park avenue, little miss lady
AGE: Nineteen
GRADE OR OCCUPATION: Freshman at Harmony
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
FACE CLAIM: Emma Roberts
EYE COLOR: Brown
HAIR COLOR: Dirty blond to light brown, depending on the light
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT: Five feet three inches and one hundred and five pounds
DESCRIPTION:
The first thing many friends and acquaintances remark upon is Laidey's height...or lack thereof. She is living proof that good things come in small packages. Ever since she was a baby she had always been a tiny girl, the runt of the litter so to speak. And as she got older she grew, but not nearly as fast as everyone she knew. Even at nineteen she finds many younger children tower over her. College can be especially embarrassing due to the fact that she has to literally look up to most of her peers. Being a tiny girl, Laidey doesn't have to eat much either. Her frame has always been slender thanks to her light diet and active lifestyle. Though she may have a soft indoor girl look to her, Laidey does like to play out in the yard and jog around the neighborhood everyday.
Unfortunately, Laidey was the only one in her family to miss out on the dark brown Deare hair. Instead her hair is slightly lighter than the rest of her family, sometimes even blond in the height of summer. Often her brother has teased her about looking different, saying that the family must have adopted her as a Christmas gift. Laidey has gotten used to her light colored hair, though she's always wanted to dye it a reddish brown to match her family. Not that her mother would ever allow her to alter her appearance so drastically. If it isn't natural make up, jewelery, or clothes then it isn't something allowed on her body. Her hair is always medium to long length. Once a boy put gum in her hair and her mother had to chop it short. Never again was Laidey allowed to cut her hair short, not that she wanted to after that. Typically she wears her hair loose in wavy curls, though occasionally her hair will be up.
Luckily Laidey's appearance isn't really suited for heavy make up, tattoos, or piercings. She actually fits the way she was bred to look very well. With baby fat intact, Laidey has a round and childish face still. Though she is on the brink of womanhood she still manages to retain a youthful and innocent look. Often older people will see her as a little girl because of how sweet her facial features are. Laidey doesn't resent this assumption at all. She appreciates looking like... well a perfect little lady. Make up is always kept natural to enhance this cute ingenue impression. Of course, in school she was seen like a little sister or cute girl to many of the boys. Not that she minded much. Even in college she has a hard time letting go of her little girl days and embracing a more womanly attitude.
Clothing styles reflect personalities, obviously. Therefore, it's no surprise that Laidey dresses like Miss Park Avenue. It's rare to see her out of a dress and when she is, it's a guarantee that her clothes are brand name type that look like they were meant to be seen rather than actually worn. Shopping trips with her mother normally result in 'athletic' looking clothing that are really just for show to make her wardrobe interesting. And peers are usually judged on outward appearance. Her clothes tend to be the focal point of either admiration or ridicule. It only takes one glance to see she comes from money, especially the little gold Tiffany necklace she always wears. Not everyone comes from the beautiful end of a New England town.
PERSONALITY:
One word to described Laidey? Lady. And not just in the sense that she was born with female anatomy rather than male. Lady in the old fashioned and society upholding view of what a proper lady should be. She knows etiquette fit for a Victorian era rather than the cold and impersonal world we live in. She knows how to sit a formal dining table and what eat utensil is used for in detail. How to act at a formal dinner party was learned very early on. Her own grooming skills are are art of perfection and she hardly ever looks ruffled or in any way unkempt. Punctuality is a must for Lady. Every morning she is the first one up in her household and prepares for the day. Her morning routine generally consists on making her appearance acceptable, waking her parents, getting the newspaper, checking her garden, and then settling down for breakfast.
Unlike a proper lady, Laidey does have a tendency to raise her voice. Not in a shrill yelling type of way. But sometimes she loses herself in whatever fun activity she is doing around the house and just happens to yell out in a tone slightly above indoor voice. Of course this is completely intolerated inside the home, but when she is chasing her little brother around the backyard her mother tries to ignore the ruckus. Laidey is one of the most polite girls her age, but she is still a girl in many ways. Her immaturity keeps her from being over the top snob and reminds her to still enjoy the little activities she does in her neighborhood. Especially going to see family friends. The best thing about living in a quiet, little New England town is everyone in a block is bound to know everyone else. Luckily her neighbors tend to be like minded people and equally polite.
Laidey never wanders outside her social circle. Not because she thinks she is better than others less fortunate, but instead she just never has the opportunity to. Her mother ensures to find kids her age within their socioeconomic class that she can spend time with. Laidey is extremely sheltered and rarely leaves the comfort of her own little world. Granted school exposes her to new people, but even then people segregate. Even if she wanted to venture out to explore, people unlike her tend to equally reject her. It's not uncommon for Laidey to receive nicknames like Park Avenue or be ridiculed due to her financial status. This rejection only encourages her further to stay within her own group of friends. This defense of active sheltering is a mechanism Laidey has learned from her parents.
Growing up wealthy comes with certain worries as well as certain privliedges. Laidey wasn't allowed to just wander the town in her younger days and is still expected to uphold this behavior now that she is an adult. She doesn't really kinow how the world works and is certainly a stranger to the real pains of a cruel world. Laidey has always had everything provided for her. She's never worried about where her next meal will come from or how she'll put a roof over her head that night. Spoiled? Yes, but Laidey doesn't take it for granted. She knows she is extremely lucky and that she doesn't deserve to have everything handed to her on a silver platter just because her daddy makes a good salary. So while she lives in Snob Hill, she is far from snobby.
Her naivety of the world paired with her good nature can make her especially supsetible to predators. Laidey doesn't know the boundaries of the world and what constitutes as the wrong side of the tracks. She assumes no one is out to hurt her because where she comes from no one ever would. Even her home is a loving one. Only once did her mother ever strike her and Laiidey was upset for weeks about it. It isn't difficult to get Laidey to accept something at face value, especially other people's kindness. Naturally she assumes people will treat her with the same respect she gives. When she is taken advantage of and hurt, Laidey doesn't deal with it well since the idea is so foreign to her. She tends to have a good cry about it or sulk for a while. Rarely, when she is upset and angry Laidey may even work herself up into a tizzy before lashing out. However, her fits of rage are short lived and it isn't long before she is back to sobbing.
Her ignorance of worldly issues doesn't just extend to painful and hurtful scenarios. She also doesn't have much of an idea of how love works. Her inexperience makes her seem very innocent, especially when compared to others of her age. Unfortunately, she can be very trusting with her affections and jump before looking so to speak. For now her life has been guarded against such situations, but one day no doubt her ignorance will get her into trouble. Luckily Laidey's family friends are older and wiser, typically they look out for her well being and willingly explain things about her world she doesn't quite understand. Being optimistic people she naturally is only told about the good side of things, making her world nothing but sunshine.
It's shocking to ever hear a pessimistic side of a story and if Laidey does, she normally takes anything negative to heart. It's not too difficult to scare Laidey, especially when she is dealing with someone unknown.
HOMETOWN: Boston, Massachusetts
FAMILY MEMBERS:
Jim Deare {Father}
Darlene Elizabeth Deare{Mother}
Bairn Deare{Younger Brother}
Sarah Deare{Aunt}
HISTORY:
Jim Deare was born into an esteemed family, as was Darlene Elizabeth. It was only natural the two would meet eventually since they ran in the same circle in Boston. Much to their parent's pleasure the two kids met and fell in love. There wasn't a prettier couple in all of the New England area. And the pair were really devoted to each other. So much so, their dating period only lasted for a few months before a short engagement and a quick marriage ceremony. Jim took a job at his father's firm and the newlyweds settled into a quite neighborhood only a few blocks from their parent's houses. The nicest neighborhood in town of course, the perfect place to raise a family. Just as quick as their love had blossomed, so did a family. That Christmas the Deares gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
The couple had been hoping for a boy first and a girl second, though Darlene quickly warmed up to the idea of grooming her own little lady. From the beginning Laidey was dressed in designer brand dresses with matching baby shoes. Though many might view her life as materialistic she didn't grow up expecting nice things. Instead Laidey understood her mother and father loved her enough to ensure she had nice things. At the end of the day they were merely things, it was the love behind them that meant something. This continued on until her teenage years. Her mother would take her out to tea with the ladies, while all of them commented on how cute she was. However, her whole world shifted as she entered high school. Laidey was used to being the center of attention in her own little world. Jim Deare would play outside with her after work and her days after school would be spent lounging with Darlene.
But right before the winter season her parents broke important news to her, Darlene was pregnant. Of course this was a shock. Laidey was fourteen and much too old to have an infant sibling. Though she forgot the important fact that her parents had been very young when they first had her. They were still relatively young in comparison to other married couples. It took a while for Laidey to warm up to the idea, but once she could wrap her head around the idea of a baby she couldn't wait. Laidey was an active participant throughout the whole pregnancy. If she wasn't beside her mom discussing baby names then she was running out with her dad to pick up food for cravings. Part of her felt a little jealous of all the attention despite her excitement. At her age she shouldn't be jealous of a new baby, but she was. However, her brother's birth changed all of that.
As soon as Laidey saw Bairn she was in love. He was tiny and defenseless, she had the overwhelming urge to watch over him. The next years continued smoothly. Laidey found a new spot within the family and was never jealous of her baby brother again. Instead she became like a third parent and took the role of protector. The stress of the baby had made odd things happen but Laidey hadn't allowed herself to give it much thought. When her senior year of high school was nearly finished odd things began to happen again. She would hear voices. Well...no. A voice. It was a soft toned woman, lady like to the extreme. Never ever did this voice tell her to do something harmful to herself or anybody so she ignored it and assumed it was a figment of her imagination. Sometimes she even listened to it when picking out clothes or necklaces. A week after graduation she received the letter and told her parents about the voice.
After a few long family meetings, her parents agreed to pack up and move as a unit to Memory. Jim Deare had been looking for a new place to open a second office for his firm. Little did he know, his daughter would pick it for him. She arrived just in time to start the upcoming fall semester at the local college as a freshman.
DISNEY CHARACTER: Lady
ABILITIES/ATTRIBUTES:
Once Lady awakens, Laidey will be able to transform into a cocker spaniel. She will also be able to talk to animals of all sorts: dogs, beavers, siamese cats....
DESCRIPTION:
Laidey is still Laidey for the time being. Though starting her senior year of high school she certainly did begin to hear Lady, her thoughts on the world around her. The disney spirit scratches the surface every now and then, mostly odd occassions like if Laidey sees a dog catcher or rat. But for the most part Lady is pretty quite and nothing seems to be drawing her out. Though both Laidey and Lady are restless, as if they can sense something big is about to happen.
