Of course since she had recently settled into the little town of Memory, Adia slowly unpacked her things back at home. Only she had very little patience for sitting around and placing things in their correct location. Which was why she still had quite a few boxes to open and empty. Instead here she was far more comfortable outside in the warm atmosphere of the park. The sun's rays cascaded over every inch of the land heating it to a bearable temperature. Adia loved laying out in the sun, and could be out there for hours if it hadn't been for the fact that she sun burned easily.
The red head sat with legs crossed on a bench, pencil in hand as she sketched within a notebook. One filled with drawings her mother had done several years ago. There was even a sketch of herself next to one of the many elephants back at the reserve. Precious memories, thats pretty much what they were now.
"I can't even get the ears right...."
Adia mumbled, following with a sigh as she erased what she had begun to draw. Truthfully she wasn't quite sure what it was at first but assumed it wasn't getting anywhere. Shifting slightly in her position, Adia leaned a bit too far forward and caused the notebook to fall off her lap. A few of the loose pages fell out leaving them scattered out on the grass. "Aww come on." She pursed her lips, twisting them to a side slightly as she often did when slightly annoyed. The red head rose to begin collecting the papers. To make the matter worse, a light breeze picked up sending one drawing across the park. With one arm Adia clutched the papers while attempting to pounce on the other one. She missed it by a few inches and the wind picked it up once more. "Come back!" Her legs carried her forward, with one arm extended to try and grab the paper. To her dismay, once her fingers closed in on it poor Adia had collided with someone. The red head fell back wincing lightly. "Ouch....sorry." She muttered, a little embarrassed. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - THEY DON'T LOOK BACK 'cause what's the point in that- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - He always wound up in the park, which was unfortunate in a couple of ways. First, this one-horse town was so small that nearly everyone would come to the park on nice days, nestled as it was beneath tall maple trees and lined in neatly trimmed hedges, all picturesque. So it was generally crowded and teeming with small children and their air-headed parents, or brooding, introspective types who considered themselves too beyond the confines of their perfectly civilized houses, or just... normal people. Second, being that it was a public park, Shere had zero chances of exercising his tiger form here without either scaring the local population or getting himself caught up by animal control. And third, and probably most disappointingly, this park was nothing compared to the jungles of India and Shere did not particularly like being reminded of that. But still, he always wound up in the park.
It was in this foul mood that he found himself now, standing awkwardly in the shade of two trees and trying to decide if he should just walk back home. There was nothing for him to do in town (ever) or at work (no team sports had started yet) and his car was in the shop due to the mysterious claw marks that had appeared on his back bumper some nights ago. So with nowhere to be and nowhere to go and no means to get there anyway, Shere continued standing, awkwardly and by himself, in Tolgey Park.
A breeze picked up and shook the leaves overhead, making Shere look up and stupidly gaze into the sun. He squinted and threw a hand up over his eyes (and shaded his nose a bit too, the man did not need any more freckles), watching the leaves swing into each other in the wind. They looked silly, he decided, but didn't have much time to pursue that thought when he was almost knocked off his feet.
"Ah, hey!" He sort of shouted in surprise, his knees buckling and arms pinwheeling but he managed to keep his balance and stay standing. Immediately his notoriously short temper flared and he could feel the golden color of Shere Khan leaking into his eyes. He turned sharply to see a small woman on the ground, clutching some papers and muttering in pain, and two things ran instantly through his head: What a foul, clumsy, stupid little girl, how dare she run into me! and she's young but she's... rather cute.
Shere always did have a weakness for redheads.
Scowling at how at odds these two thoughts were and frankly quite alarmed at the latter, Shere stood there, momentarily frozen. He looked down at her without saying anything so that eventually too long a time had passed and she was still splayed on the ground. Manners... She doesn't have any manners, he scolded her mentally until he remembered she had apologized, in which case he had no excuse.
Still silent but now at least able to move, Shere looked up and away from her, surveying the park and wondering how many people had seen what happened. Most everyone seemed wrapped up in their own little purposes so that meant Shere's surly reputation had thus far gone undamaged, but that still didn't explain his next move. His gaze was still directed away from her, but silently Shere offered his hand to help her up.

Somehow Adia would had more so preferred a scolding rather than the silence. The red head flickered her smokey grey gaze up towards the male, staring at his curiously. She had apologized hadn't she? Or maybe he didn't hear her. Yet Adia didn't repeat the string of words but instead still remained where she had fallen. Not gonna help me up I suppose... She thought, a little bitterly at first but seeing Shere's hand extended towards her after some time shifted her thoughts in a different direction. Adia placed her free hand in his own, easing herself back up on her feet while clutching her drawings. She folded them carefully, tucking them into the backpocket of her jeans.
"So umm thanks, and sorry about that. Was trying to catch something that kept slipping away."
She attempted to break the silence between them, but felt a little awkward even then considering his gaze never met her own. Like he was avoiding it altogether. Adia stared at him momentarily until she realized she was doing it. Kind of....weird? Don't you think. The familiar voice echoed in her mind, and Adia couldn't help but lightly chuckle. To anyone around her it might have seemed strange, but if one really knew what went on in her head....well they might understand. Weird or not, atleast he didn't snap at me or anything.. Adia placed forth a brilliant smile on her lips, her expression becoming slightly more sincere. "I'm Adia, I don't think we've ever met. I just moved here a few weeks ago....though I guess you don't really need to know that." She said, bringing a hand through the short mess of orange. Under the sunlight it was a little apparent that a few strands of yellow were mixed in with the orange shade giving it slightly more dimension. "Don't talk much do you?" [/blockquote][/blockquote] STATUS Completed FEATURING # Shere WORD COUNT # xD I dont know NOTES # Hope this is fine, if not I can change it. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - THEY DON'T LOOK BACK 'cause what's the point in that- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Shere dropped his hand from hers the moment she regained her balance and had every intention of walking away then and there. He didn't need to get mixed up with girls who didn't know how walk without barreling into people; in fact, he didn't need to get mixed up with people at all. That out of character thought he'd had a moment ago was just that - out of character. And he was going to leave it at that, banish the whole silly situation from his mind, and just leave. He did have to check on his car in the shop, anyway.
But the girl was still speaking, so reluctantly Shere stayed, avoiding her gaze to hopefully put her off. But the girl only chuckled to herself knowingly, and Shere could easily guess that there was someone up in her head she was talking to but he hadn't an idea exactly who, nor did he honestly care. He didn't want to continue this mostly one-sided conversation, frankly, because he predicted it might spur some introspection later on. Shere hated introspection. Generally he avoided introspection altogether. Especially introspection about those of the female persuasion. Oh, he could hear Shere Khan howling with laughter...
"...know that. Don't talk much, do you...?"
"What? Oh. No." He said in monosyllables, his tone purposefully disinterested in his usual charming manner. He finally tore his gaze from just looking over her head to look at her, what, Adia, she had said? Thankfully those funny thoughts stayed out of his head as he considered her, the only thing coming to mind being "I don't think I have her in any of my classes." Maybe she was a college kid, but just old to enough to be in her first year? Whatever, he'd already put too much thought into this, far more than he would have liked.
Well good. That out of the way and finally with a game plan in mind (other than standing by himself in the park waiting to get run over by girls with too many colors in her hair), Shere nodded at her once and turned away, walking toward the street beyond the gate. He'd just make a quick right on Main Street past the town square and up to the auto shop, have a look at his car and avoid the questions the mechanics would ask about the scratches. And then, ugh, he had a lesson plan to come up with for the day after tomorrow - something about nutrition for the Freshman class.
See? His day was booked. He couldn't possibly linger here any longer.
Shere slid his hands into the pockets of his camo shorts and walked away, very decidedly not turning to look behind him.Ohhh, Human, Shere Khan chuckled, you are endlessly amusing.

Her ramblings did little to alleviate the silence and it only made her heave out a light sigh. She crossed her arms, lowering her gaze towards the ground. "Yeah...."
Adia muttered more to herself, glancing up at him once he had spoken. Once more, nothing but a few words. She would have rolled her eyes but knew it was far too rude to do. Keep talking. I'm sure he's friendly. Maybe just needs someone to talk to. Adia felt the words resonate in her thoughts. Of course Nala was always a little too persistant in getting to know others and possibly try and find some kind nature in them. Adia blinked a few times, arching an eyebrow as he turned off and began to walk away. As curious as she was, the red head reluctantly followed with slow steps at first. Only after she completely decided did she catch up to his side. "As intrusive as I might seem, I apologize. Just well....I dont' really know too many people around here. Mind me asking where your off to?" Adia asked, smile never leaving her lips. It was in her nature to be curious, and adventure outside her comfort zone. Even if it meant following some complete stranger. Although it wasn't like she wasn't capable of taking care of herself. If she had practically grown up on the serengetti and not gotten eaten by some animal, then she was surely fine talking to random people. This is far more interesting than when you attempted speaking to that rhinoceros. I'm a little surprised he didn't try and stomp you over... A light laugh echoed those words, and Adia gave a quick roll of her eyes. An amusing time indeed. What else what she suppose to do out there? Besides most of the animals had loved her company. "Although your free to tell me to leave, and I will go back to what I was doing." Adia added, still following at his side. "Not that I had much to do to begin with.." She quietly said, bringing a hand once more through that sherbet colored hair of hers. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

The tiger continued to mock in his head as he walked away, his eyes fixed on the far gate to the park, the girl is following you! She's actually following you! Alright, stuff like that didn't happen in real life. Just Disney movies. And there Shere remembered where he was.
"What?" Shere said aloud, more in disbelief at Shere Khan's comment than speaking to Adia. But there she was rather suddenly so that Shere actually had to take a step to the side to avoid hitting her with his elbow (she was much shorter than him and therefore a great height to be smacked in the head with his gangly limbs). "Jeez, he was right," he muttered as he glanced at her, adding a nasty "persistant" in his head while the tiger just laughed away.
"I don't really know too many people around here. Mind me asking where you're off to?"
"Yes" was his simple answer, no further discussion. He did mind her asking as he was quite contented to be alone and actually would have preferred it that way. But she was awfully good at nagging for someone who had just moved here a few weeks or days or whatever ago, and she carried on as if he hadn't said anything.
"Although you're free to tell me to leave, and I will go back to what I was doing. Not that I had much to do to begin with."
"Fine, yes," Shere said with a touch of exasperation in his tone. He found that it did, actually, irk him quite a bit that he had thought so frivolous and useless a thing about this girl, even if it was only for the briefest second. That she was cute, oh jeez. "Leave then," he finished, then clamped his mouth shut while Shere Khan was practically roaring with laughter.

Optimism was what drove the red head to pursue her attempts at befriending this male. Her legs carried her a little slower beside him considering he was much taller, but Adia didn't seem to tire either. Given Nala's strong legs, just assisted Adia in being a little more athletic human wise. "So I'm not going to get much more than like three words."
She sighed, almost tempted to pout but refrained from it. Her gaze was set forward, a glint of amusement held in her eyes. Even when he had cast her away with a bold no, she didn't seize her strides. A determined mask set itself upon her face. "Definately more difficult than the rhino..." Adia muttered, rolling her eyes finally. "Come on, am I really a bad person? Is this still about having crashed into you earlier, because yes it was mostly my fault but it wasn't like I was intending to do it on purpose." She said, a little more serious. Adia shook her head lightly, releasing a light laugh. "Well I'm not leaving, atleast until I get a name. Come on, I promise I might leave you alone then." Adia began, but something in her eyes said otherwise. New people intrigued her even if they didn't want to speak. "Though, no guarantee." She shrugged lightly, linking her arms behind her back as she walked. Adia had given a glance up towards him, curiously wondering what he would say now. Something about him doesn't feel right. Maybe we should just leave as is, Adia. Nala's tone in her mind was a little warning but Adia dismissed it. I'm sure its nothing.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - THEY DON'T LOOK BACK 'cause what's the point in that- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - There was apparently no stopping this girl. She was like a mosquito buzzing incessantly in his ear, so much so that Shere tiredly ran a mental check of Disney characters, searching for mosquitos. Any famous ones? Not that he could think of, though that was hardly something to celebrate.
"Come on, am I really a bad person? Is this still about having crashed into you earlier, because yes it was mostly my fault but it wasn't like I was intending to do it on purpose."
Shere didn't say anything because to answer that question would one, require talking to her and two, take too long to explain besides. Shere could care less if she was a "bad person", and he didn't want to take the time to point out all the reasons besides her crashing into him that he didn't want to talk to her. He didn't generally like to talk to anyone unless it was absolutely necessary for one. He also especially didn't like to talk to people where upon seeing them one of his first thoughts was "she's cute". And finally, Shere was basically apathetic to the whole social thing anyway, and this conversation was over.
But oh god she was still talking.
"Well I'm not leaving, at least until I get a name. Come on, I promise I might leave you alone then."
Good, a promise. Shere paused in his stride and turned to look down at her, fully prepare to tell her his name if it would get her to leave him alone. He did have other things to do, after all. But ah, there was a catch - "Though, no guarantee."
Well, that made things easy then.
Shere closed his mouth again and continued walking. Quickly he pieced together what he knew about her from their chance, unfortunate encounter and tried to match her personality to a character he could recognize. Automatically he scanned the cast of characters from The Jungle Book, mostly out of habit, but knew she couldn't be anyone from there. Annoying as those characters were in the movie, Shere knew they had nothing on this girl.
So, what? Uncoordinated, talkative, persistent, and that red hair. Wendy? From Peter Pan? Ugh, wouldn't that be his luck, to piss off whoever-Peter-Pan-is's girlfriend. Even though Shere was the fencing instructor at the Academy, he knew that if Peter was awake in his host, he wouldn't stand a chance. So hopefully not Wendy.
Lady? From Lady and the Tramp? She was pretty useless as a puppy, right? She had more manners, though, unlike this buzzing little gnat. Shere was getting no where trying to figure this out without more clues. But Shere hated guessing games.
"Alright, come off it. You're obviously dying to tell me who you really are so I can ooh and aah and be all jealous of whatever sorry character got trapped in your head. So alright, out with it. I'll do the whole admiration thing if you want, if it'll please you and get you to leave me alone." Shere had stopped and turned to face her fully, using the good half a foot he had on her to his advantage. Hands clamped firmly on his waist he spoke to her quietly and quickly, his accent even thicker when he was annoyed (which was nearly always). And although she had asked him his name, he knew better than that. A girl who came to Memory with a character already awake in her? Of course she was looking for an audience. Shere just happened to be the unfortunate first person she came across.
Besides, if he told her his name, he'd be a dead give away. He really should just start going by his middle name...

Adia's frame had to break to a stop just seconds from Shere if not she would have once more bumped into him. That was by far the last thing she wanted now. Those smokey grey eyes fixed on him, narrowing a little at his words. "That's funny. Do I really look like someone who walks around bragging about something like that."
She said, a light hint of sarcasm hidden in her words. Adia crossed her arms, letting her gaze float elsewhere. "Is it such a crime, making friends? Hmm?" She added, catching onto the irritation in his tone. He was pretty much fed up with her at this point but it didn't much bother her. Adia was still quite happy and amused by him. Strange as it was. "So, personally I don't feel the need to tell you. Nor is it of any importance." Adia said, getting a little annoyed herself that he would assume such a thing. She didn't want attention nor did she care for it. Adia was simply friendly, and her mouth ran off a few times. "Your, definately something else. Makes me wonder who's living in your head." She commented, staring back at him. "Not that I would ever expect to find out. People seem kind of hesitant on saying." [/blockquote][/blockquote]

It wasn't exactly like people who bragged had a certain look about them, or wore a big shiny badge on their chest that said "I <3 BRAGGING". He rolled his eyes at that comment but continued to stare down at her while she talked, though now his mind was elsewhere. Namely, trying to figure out which tactic was best to rid himself of the little buzzing mosquito.
He'd already tried ignoring her, walking away, being blunt, angry, condescending and impatient, but here she was, keeping pace with him like they were the dearest friends. He briefly entertained what would happen if he did just speak with her for a while, if that would be enough to satisfy her so she could be on her way, but instantly Shere Khan growled at the notion and Shere was back at square one.
"...You're definitely something else. Makes me wonder who's living in your head..."
The growl turned into a laugh, and even Shere had to smirk at that. "You don't want to know," he said and shrugged, but Adia kept talking regardless.
"Not that I would ever expect to find out. People seem kind of hesitant on saying."
That much was true. Shere knew of only a few people who displayed their Disney characters proudly and they were complete tools. Shere himself was basically just embarrassed to be in this whole situation... It was all so impossible and childish, and if neighboring towns or, heaven forbid, tourists found out what was going on in Memory, they'd all be locked up in a loony bin straight away.
"I'm sure you can understand why. Use that funny little brain of yours, there's a dear," he deadpanned, all pitch and emotion in his voice replaced with sarcasm. He looked her over once more and breathed a quiet huff before dropping his hands from his waist. He waved goodbye at her as a final attempt to ditch the other redhead, but had a feeling it wasn't going to work as he started off toward the gate again.

Perhaps she was being a little too overwhelming but it was in her nature to be curious about people. Even if at times she did cross the line Adia had the tendency to ignore that fine line of patience people had for her. She wasn't much to upset quickly but she was getting there considering how rude Shere was coming off. Nala was even warning her mentally to back off apparently by some strange vibe she was feeling.
Adia frowned lightly, giving a roll of her eyes as he spoke. Sarcasm was all that was underlining his tone, and Adia found it annoying. "Guess it makes sense..."
She murmured, crossing her arms. There was just no conversing with this guy. It was like he was antisocial. Who in their right mind was? Which only made her further wonder what Disney character roamed in this man's mind. Adia wanted to pry, really continue to pester him but for a moment considered it would be useless. She fell silent, thinking to herself and that other individual within her. Adia's eyes flickered up, seeing him begin to walk again. She narrowed her eyes slightly a little ticked off by his earlier comment. "I so don't have a funny little brain!" She said, feeling a bit ticked off. A low roar wanted to surface through her throat and it had made its way past her lips until she clamped both hands over her mouth. Adia had no idea where that had come from, and she mentally scolded herself for letting it escape like that. Perhaps its had been a bit long since she had given her other form a stretch. She sighed loudly, lowering her hands as she watched Shere make his way towards the gates. "So not friendly." [/blockquote][/blockquote]

He was free of her, completely rid of her endless stream of questions... But with that look behind him, he caught the expression her face when she realized he had insulted her, heard the indignant tone in her voice when she protested the funniness of her brain, and then... Shere couldn't help it.
He laughed.
It was quiet, and a just a short little chuckle but he couldn't stop the way his shoulders shook a little, the way his mouth turned up in a smile and how his eyes crinkled at the corners. She just looked so ridiculous, standing there with her hands clamped over her mouth like she was trying to keep from saying something or doing something. Shere was helpless but to laugh.
Oh, fantastic, though. She probably thinks I'm approachable now, he complained to himself in his head while Shere Khan could hardly breathe for laughing. This whole sordid business felt like it was straight out of some stupid cartoon (three guesses what kind), but Shere was just about admit defeat. He had come so close! If he hadn't turned around and seen her funny face, or the way she stopped herself from saying something which had Shere uncharacteristically curious to know what she would have said, he would have been out of the gates and on his way to see about his car. But he had turned, and laughed, and saw those things she did, and that stirred to life the smallest flame of curiosity. Damn it.
Stopped and turned to face her, the smile faltered and fell from his face. "Were..." He tried posing a question to her but it was coming off as really lame this late in the game. Oh well. "were you... about to say something?"
