YOUR NAME: Kim
YOUR AGE: 18
YOUR RP EXPERIENCE: about 3-4 years
YOUR SAMPLE:I’ll never forget the day everything changed. It will forever be my most cherished memory. We were only five, not even in school yet, but there was something about that day, or maybe it’s the pictures of that day, but a smile is always in place thinking of that day. The swing set no longer stands; the woods have been torn down for new houses to be built, for new children to have happy memories, maybe ones similar to her and I.
The only reason that I know she was wearing a pink flowered sundress, is from the pictures, but I can see the amount of mud she caked over the dress. I haven’t seen her in years, but I’m sure she grew into an adult woman, both beautiful and rough. She didn’t follow conventional rules, others said stay out of the mud, and she took a running jump into the puddle. Anything thing someone told her she couldn’t do, she did it anyways. That’s the person she will always be to me. The girl from the home videos, the one laughing and dancing, not a care in the world, this is the girl I miss the most. She moved away, I never saw her again after school started until years later.
The day I saw her again, I knew I was right about the type of woman she became. She was standing in line in front of me for coffee. Her jeans were well worn, her shirt wrinkled and sprinkled with leaves and dirt. Her obvious disregard for what others may think of her, she held her head high, while staring out the window waiting for her order. I knew it was she when the cashier said ma’am and without turning from the window or her spot, she firmly stated, it’s miss, actually.
She took her coffee and turned to leave, but I couldn’t let her go without truly finding out if it was she or not. I can only hope that how terrified I was, didn’t show as I stepped into her path. “Sorry miss, you remind me of this girl I use to know, I was wondering if you were her.” I never felt so judge and calculated under a person’s stare before, but the look she gave while processing what I said, was unnerving to say the least. “Sorry, I’m not sure if I am that girl, you know, saying names normally help, but in this case, I just might not even be that girl anymore.” This one simple statement jolted me to reality. “Um, right, well her name was Rachel Banks. I don’t know if she’s since changed it.” The longer she stared at me, the longer I felt like a trapped mouse to a cat. I’ll never know how long we stood there, she staring me down, me trying not to cower, before she smiled and stated, “Yes, I am that girl, it’s still banks as well. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you, Pat.”
