AURORA ROSE SULLIVAN
FULL NAME: Aurora Rose Sullivan
NICK NAME: Rose
AGE: 19
GRADE OR OCCUPATION: HS Grad, currently working full time
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
FACE CLAIM: Anya Marina
EYE COLOR: Hazel
HAIR COLOR: Blonde
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT: tall, around 5’7-ish, and slender
DESCRIPTION: Rose, with her wide eyes and soft smile has always been an attractive girl, but her beauty is something more understated and simple. What should be willowy limbs are somewhat lanky and awkward, and are best used in holding her guitar close—not a boyfriend. It has only been the past few years that she’s grown into her height, and she hopes that her gawkiness fades away soon.
PERSONALITY: While oftentimes shy, Rose finds her true self when she’s performing on stage. She’s a singer/songwriter by nature, and is in love with the idea of love, and her music reflects this. Of course, being raised by a duo of strong-minded aunts has left her love life certainly lacking, but she’s sure, now that she’s out of high school, that she’ll find her true love—even if it ends up being the roar of the crowd. Rose has dreams for herself, but has always held back and played it safe to please her aunts. The most dangerous thing she’s even done is slice her finger on a broken guitar string, nothing life changing. But now that she’s moved out of her aunt’s small house in the woods of Washington and moved clear across the country, Rose will finally find the courage to be her own person. She’s a gentle soul by nature, and more likely to think before acting, but her weakness, like most artists, is emotion. She’s searching for a muse, someone to pour her heart out to like she does in her music, and she’s hoping to find it out in this mysterious town of Memory.
HOMETOWN: Seattle, Washington
FAMILY MEMBERS: No siblings, no parents, raised by her crazy lesbian aunts
HISTORY: After her parents were killed in a car accident when Rose was only a year old, she was sent to live with her opinionated aunts in Seattle. Rose was raised to love music and from a young age, was a bit of a loner. The only family she has are her aunts, Louise and Deb, and she’s had closer relationships with pets than with people.
Rose was born to her parents Stefan and Leah in 1992 in Olympia, Washington. Her father was a CEO in some small electronics company, and her mother stayed at home. When they were killed in a car accident in 1993, Rose was sent to Seattle to live with her mother’s sister, Louise, and her wife Deb. Louise and Deb loved Rose like their own, but fearing any lasting trauma from the accident, were always overly cautious with her. Rose grew up rather sheltered, and while she was an average student in school, she surpassed all expectations musically.
Her aunts used to say that she was singing before she could even talk. Music was something in Rose’s blood, and she highlighted each school concert and recital with her impressive voice. At age ten, she had picked up the guitar, and was soon playing as well as she sang. Once she reached high school, she started giving lessons to the neighborhood kids, using this new pocket money to save for her future. Before she started high school, and letter came to her home in Seattle, inviting her to a small, mysterious school in northern Maine, but immediately, her aunts refused to let her attend. Instead, she attended the local high school like the rest of her friends, and the letter was forgotten... for the time being. Once she graduated, her aunts were crossing their fingers for her to enroll at Julliard, but Rose had her sights set on the curious town of Memory, Maine. While she had spent her childhood dreaming of performing on stage, on singing her heart out to anyone who’d listen, she found herself drawn to the intriguing small town.
DISNEY CHARACTER: Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty
ABILITIES/ATTRIBUTES: Rose is a romantic at heart, spending her free time playing her guitar and singing. And like her namesake, Rose has an uncanny ability to make people exceedingly drowsy, and has on occasion put several teachers of hers to sleep by accident during very important exams.
DESCRIPTION: Rose is similar to Princess Aurora in many ways, most evidently in their shared love of song. Rose would love to make it as a singer/songwriter, but finds herself held back. Like Princess Aurora, Rose in love with the idea of romance and true love, though she's never really experienced it herself. While she may come off as shy at first, she really is a smart, sweet girl who oftentimes finds herself in over her head in some situations. She has trouble sometimes prioritizing things, and often misses important meetings and events because she decided to sleep in late.
YOUR NAME: Sadie
YOUR AGE: 21
YOUR RP EXPERIENCE: no rp-ing, but about 9+ years of creative writing
YOUR SAMPLE: It's not until she's twenty-two years old that June realizes that she has no ambition.
She'd like to have a passion for something productive (there's only so much joy she can get out of cutting people off on the expressway), but instead she finds herself stuck in an entry level job she hates, with a faded used car she hates, in a crappy apartment she hates. She thinks she'd like Portland more if she had a reason to stay.
(dimly she thinks she's too young to be this angry)
Laura is getting married in four months to some yuppie from Santa Barbara with a Mercedes and a faultless smile. Danny's debating on popping the question to the brainy redhead he met at MIT. Andrew's still dating (half-heartedly) and painting (more frequently) and sending her sporadic text messages.
(they make her laugh and smile even when they're not really that funny)
She thinks that they fit, but only in the way that they don't seem to fit in anywhere else.
Laura gets married in May and Danny's already engaged and Andrew cries (oh my baby sister!) a little and June wonders how soon she can get her hands on some champagne.
She's happy for Laura and Danny (and so very proud of them), but she can't help but wonder when she got so far behind everyone else. Andrew's eyes are faraway and she wonders if he's thinking the same thing.
(the champagne takes the edge off the weight of her thoughts)
She thinks that they fit, but only in the way that they've both lost track of things.
She quits her job. It's probably not her brightest move, but she feels empowered in a way that she hasn't felt in far too long. Laura's words are encouraging while Danny's are concerned but hopeful and Andrew gives her a look that shows her that he understands (but she doesn't know how on earth he could).
She wants to travel but she doesn't think she has the money for it. She does it anyway.
Laura wants lots of postcards and Danny wants lots of pictures and Andrew doesn't say anything and June thinks that if he'd open his mouth and give her a reason to stay, she just might.
But he doesn't and she doesn't and she leaves him a note by his bed.
(if he reads it, maybe he'll understand and if he doesn't, maybe things will never change)
She thinks that they fit, but only in the way that they both refuse to go first.
The world is both terribly big and awfully small (she gets sick in Marseille and laughs 'oh, I could die here and no one would know') and she thinks it would be beautiful here if she wasn't so sad. Laura writes and Danny e-mails and Andrew leaves a message on her voicemail that's hard to understand (and yet easy to at the same time).
But she worries she'll come back to Portland and nothing will change. So she stays away.
Laura sends a letter of mixed messages ('I'm pregnant!' '...Andrew's hardly painting anymore…') and she feels ecstatic and curious (with the familiar undertones of survivor's guilt) but she tucks the letter (and her feelings) away. As much as she loves Laura like a sister, she's never been more envious in her life. And she knows Andrew's plight can hardly be her doing; she's never been able to have that effect on anyone before.
(no one worries much over the consolation prize)
She thinks that they fit, but only in the way that they both know how to give up.
In Santorini, she meets a boy (a man) that she thinks she could love (but his hands are too soft and his words are too syrupy) and she finds herself missing the rain in all of this Grecian heat.
She thinks about calling Andrew, calling him and saying to him what she wants to be the truth ('I don't think I need to ever come back') and she picks up the phone to do so (even though she's much too old to be playing these games).
But Andrew speaks first and tells her what he knows to be the truth ('I miss you, and if I asked you to come back, would you?') and she caves in the only way she knows how ('Would you give me a reason to?').
She knows the moment has turned achingly honest when he answers emphatically ('Yes, please come home') and thinks that now is a perfectly acceptable moment to shed tears. So she does and catches the next flight back to Portland.
(it's as close to storybook perfect as she'll allow)
She thinks that they fit, but only in the way that they've never really wanted to fit anywhere else.
