JOHN ANDREW FAR
FULL NAME: John Andrew Far
NICK NAME: John, Sir, Mr Far, J.A.Far
AGE: 41
GRADE OR OCCUPATION: Professor of Sorcery at Classic Academy
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
FACE CLAIM: Josh Charles
EYE COLOR: Very dark brown
HAIR COLOR: Dark brown, edging towards black
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT: 5’11” 81.5kg
DESCRIPTION: At first glance, John looks like a normal sort of man: tall but not unusually, average weight and build, quite prim and proper in his stance. Overall, his appearance contains very few obvious links to his Disney character, Jafar. For a start, though he has lived in Memory since he was 11, he was born in London in England, and all of his ancestors are English, so his features have a distinctly anglicized appearance.
John’s general style is simply suit and tie. This is mostly due to the fact that as a professor, the dress code is pretty formal. But to be honest, he suits them (no pun intended) and even if he wasn’t working in his current position, he would still probably wear suits. One point of interest is his left hand. On the second finger of his left hand, he always wears a gold ring with a cobra head on the front of it, which bears a striking resemblance to the staff held by Jafar. He never takes this off if he can help it, even at night.
His eyes are a dark brown colour, but that’s not the first thing you notice about them. John’s eyes constantly seem to have a fierce look to them, always seriously, almost sinister. Even when he’s smiling or laughing, there’s still a hint of darkness, as though he’s constantly calculating and thinking behind his expression. And finally, his hair is a dark brown that looks black in some lights. It’s short, and tends to be very organised and styled, with not even one piece of flyaway hair.
PERSONALITY: John is intelligent, always has been from being very young. Now this isn’t just things like maths and history, John is cunning, and knows how to put his brains to good use in a similar way to Jafar. They both examine situations, take time over their actions, wait until everything falls smoothly into place before acting. Because of this, John tends to over-analyse a lot of things. He’s skilled at finding double meanings in words, but if he spends to long focused on one thing he tends to over think it, and come up with meanings that aren’t even there.
John does have a sense of humour, but it’s quite dry, and his ‘jokes’ tend to be in the form of sarcasm, or intelligent slights that most people don’t realise are actually insults. However he does have a penchant for puns too, although they tend to be saved for special occasions, for example getting back at any enemies. Because John is very good at holding grudges. If you upset him, he will remember it, and if it was something substantial, he will likely get revenge at some point, a quality Jafar particularly likes in John.
Something Jafar was not as keen on at first, was John’s defiance. He refuses to give in easily, and will fight for what he wants, even if it is only subtly. If he is determined to get something or do something, he will do whatever is in his power to achieve it, whether that involves waiting patiently for the right opportunity, the odd sycophantic remark to his superiors, persistence against barriers, anything, he’ll stick to it until the end. Unless a viable alternative is offered, or there is a large, unavoidable problem, very little can dissuade him from his goal.
Few people really ‘get to know’ John, as he isn’t the kind of person to have deep, emotional conversations with anyone. He’s rather uptight in that sense. That isn’t to say he is unsocial; on the contrary, John can work wonders in a social circle, he just may not always be telling the truth with what he’s saying, and he probably won’t join in much with soppy conversations about childhood and romance. He doesn’t have anything to hide, and if you ask him a direct question, he’ll probably answer it, he’s just not a fan of voluntarily opening up to people. It makes you weak if you let them gain too much ammo over you. You never know when it’ll be used against you.
HOMETOWN: Born in London in England, before moving to his current location in Memory, Maine when he started school and has stayed there ever since.
FAMILY MEMBERS: Only mother still alive. She’s retired, and one of those over-bearing types, that constantly checks up on him to make sure he’s eating properly and washing behind his ears etc. They get on quite well, although John does get incredibly annoyed at her sometimes.
HISTORY: John Andrew Far was born in London in England to a middle-class English family. He was a promising child, very intelligent and destined to do very well in the future. By the end of primary school, he had past his SATs with flying colours and was destined for a top-end grammar school. But those dreams were dashed the moment he received his letter.
Now, neither him nor his parents fully understood what the letter meant, and to this day John’s mother isn’t completely sure as to the secret behind the school, or the town itself. His parent’s simply assumed that it was some very selective school that was inviting John because of his intelligence. And John’s grandfather on his dad’s side lived not too far away from this ‘Memory’. So it was arranged that John would attend the school, and his grandfather would be in charge of him. Whenever his parent’s came to visit, they lived with the grandfather, and John managed to make sure they never actually visited Memory itself; he feared if they knew the truth they would take him back to England, and though John’s character hadn’t awoken at that point, he could feel something stirring deep inside him, and didn’t want to be away from memory when the time came. Plus, he’d grown to like it at Classic Academy.
When John was 19, his character finally awoke, and revealed itself to be Jafar. A few people, including himself, had correctly guessed it’s identity (there were clues in his manner and personality), but that didn’t prepare him for the magnitude of what he had to face. Jafar fiercely fought to take control of his host, and won several times. Nevertheless, John didn’t give up, and repeatedly fought back, regaining control eventually. These fights went on for three years, until, when John was 22, they reached an agreement.
By this point, John had left school, and was working for his grandfather in his little business in Maine. His grandfather knew all about the strange little school, and how special his grandson was. So whilst John was struggling, he’d decided to keep him close at hand, to keep an eye on him. Though the fights were less obvious by this time, and more of a mental struggle than anything visible, they were still causing trouble for John. However, John and Jafar did have a lot in common, and when they both agreed to calmly and rationally discuss their situation, they soon reached a compromise.
Twenty years later, John and Jafar are in perfect sync with each other, acting as one person rather than two conflicting minds. They are still individuals, but they share actions, and their thoughts tend to be similar if not the same so that it’s hard to distinguish them. Once Jafar allowed him access to the magic that he owned, John conjured up the staff (on Jafar’s advice) and shrunk it down to the golden ring he is always seen with. A little after the compromise was reached John had moved back to live in Memory, and after some serious training with his new powers, he secured a job teaching sorcery to the new students at Classic Academy – a job he is still in now.
DISNEY CHARACTER: Jafar
ABILITIES/ATTRIBUTES: John is very talented with magic, thanks to Jafar. As ‘the greatest sorcerer in the world’ he gets the perks of pretty much any magic he wants, right at his fingertips. Similarly to Jafar, John uses a cobra-headed staff to focus his magic, except John’s can be shrunk down to a gold ring which he wears on the middle finger of his left hand. It’s gold and has the cobra head the same as Jafar’s staff, and it’s eyes glow red when he’s using magic, like Jafar’s. John keeps it as a ring for the majority of the time, since it means he can perform magic with the flick of his wrist, rather than having to carry a staff round all the time. However when he uses big magic, something that requires a lot of focus and/or energy, he must have it as a staff. When in staff form, he has the ability to hypnotise people, as long as there are no distractions and the person isn’t too strong minded.
DESCRIPTION: Admittedly at first there was a lot of friction as the two of them battled to take control. Jafar awoke when John had left school, around the age of 19 and fought hard, managing to take control of John, determined to wreak havoc on the world. But John was never one to give up easily, and managed to fight back. For the first three years, the two of them were constantly battling, not getting on at all, neither of them willing to give in even an inch.
Eventually, the two calmed down and made a sort of compromise. They actually have a lot in common, so when they eventually came to a deal, they worked well together. After being together for so long, they seem almost the same person. Their thoughts and actions tend to be a joint effort, rather than from two separate people. John has total control of the magic when he needs it now, and though they still argue and fight when they disagree, they rarely disagree.
They haven’t met Aladdin or any of his friends yet, so Jafar hasn’t been desperate for revenge, but it seems unlikely that John will be able to keep him quiet when they do. Jafar does, however, still have that lust for power and control and authority, something John shares in, and with so much magic behind them, it seems they will probably get their way. At the moment they are remaining quiet, happy with their position in the school, waiting for the opportunity to arise for them to take power.
YOUR NAME: Loki
YOUR AGE: =D
YOUR RP EXPERIENCE: About three, maybe four years now. I’m not really counting anymore xD
YOUR SAMPLE: (from a gifted site. My character Alistair has mind control)
The familiar smug look returned to Alistair’s face as he watched her wave for him. He could tell already how much she hated being controlled, and it made him feel so… powerful to be able to display his superiority so easily. Or at least, that’s how he saw it: having total control over someone did make you feel superior, especially if the other person was fighting you with all their might and still failing. And of course, Alistair loved feeling superior… pompous git. “You know, it wouldn’t hurt you if you stopped resisting. If you just sit back and let me drive, you’ll find it rather enjoyable.” Obviously he didn’t know that from experience, but he assumed there was an association between the pain she’d described and the force of resistance he often met when using his power. If that resistance wasn’t there, i.e. she stopped trying to stop him, she wouldn’t be in pain.
He couldn’t help but smirk before continuing, running his fingers back across his hair as though he was checking that it was all still in it’s rightful place. “If you think that hurts my dear, I would be careful not to get on the wrong side of me. I can do a lot worse than that if I want to.” His tone was as amiable as ever, but there was a new sinister edge to it, as though there was a warning hidden under the jokey manner. As fun as it was to mess around with this girl, she still had to know her place. Alistair would strike her down in an instant if she dared step out of line whilst she was around him. This whole town would learn that soon enough. Once his place in history was surely secured, no-one would dare defy him.
“Ignore me?” he repeated, the darker tone disappearing as he laughed at her words. “Darling, how do you expect to ignore me when I can control your every move? If you tried to walk away I could pull you back, refused to speak and I could force the words out of your mouth.” He hadn’t quite mastered speech yet, but she didn’t need to know that. He knew where the speech part of the mind was, but so far he’d been unsuccessful with working it enough to form understandable words. “Ignoring me is simply not plausible.”
Young Melanie was fun, but she couldn’t be a distraction for too long. It was nice to have a break from work work work, but a break couldn’t last forever. It wasn’t so much the fact that he wasn’t working; after all, he didn’t have anything that needed his attention this instant. It was just, with so many people on his tail, being out in plain sight on the main street was perhaps not the best place to be.
His eyes flickered over Melanie’s broken car which had been the cause of this meeting in the first place. “Seeing as you have no transport now, could I offer you a lift somewhere?”
